Preteen Girls

Wow. When I dreamed of having a girl many years ago, I did not fully understand the complexity of that wish.

Rebecca is having some issues with friendship lately. I have know for a few weeks that something was wrong, but could never get her to admit it. She did finally talk to me about a few things yesterday. We discussed it all with Eric and he and I gave her some suggestions on how to handle the situation. The main thing we emphasized was treating others the way you want to be treated. Those were the last words I uttered to her as she got out of the van this morning.

Fast forward to the ride home this afternoon. I asked her how things went today and she said the she and her friend had talked and expressed their concerns. I could tell ( and even told her so) that she was telling me the "big picture" and that there were more details to the story she was leaving out. I could never find the right combination of words to get her to spill the beans, so I let it ride.

About 2 hours after being at home, the phone rang. It was the mother of the friend. I found out the little details. Of course all of the little details were the ones that incriminated Rebecca. It was sad to hear them from another parent.

I'm sure this won't be the last time this happens. It just breaks my heart as a parent. It brings back so many memories of my tween years. I am trying so hard to teach her how not to do what I did. But....as the saying goes...I don't know what I'm talking about in the eyes of a tween.

Generation Gap

I was talking to my mom last night about the innaguration. I told her that I was disappointed that the Obama girls didn't get to go to one of the balls. She told me not to worry that they had a party at the White House with 50 friends. She went to on say that they had gone on a treasure hunt around the White House. When they opened one door, they found some "little band" behind it.

I laughed and laughed. I said "Mom. That is not just some "little band." It was the Jonas Brothers. They are the hottest teeny bopper group out there today."

It really brought into perspective the generation gap. I don't mean that in a bad way. It just really came to light.

I love you mom. By the way.... Rebecca loves the Jonas Brothers. : )

We have our first snow of 2009. The meteorologists actually got it right this time. We are getting a light dusting. It's pretty to watch the flakes swirl around in the air. Unfortunately, it's not accumulating to much. Non the less, we are enjoying it!!

Anticipation-southern style

It's official.  The first snow of the season is threatening the south.  They have already canceled school for tomorrow.  Don't get me wrong.  I would love to see snow.  It just cracks me up how they cancel school when they forecast that it might snow.  Check back for updates on the amount.

Tumbling

Rebecca has been taking tumbling since July of last year.  She is trying to learn how to do a round off back handspring for cheerleading tryouts in April.  She finally did a back handspring on the trampoline all by herself this week.  She's pushing hard to put it all together on the floor, too.  She stepped up the process by enrolling for two times a week.  Here is a sneak peak of her progress.

Here is her friend, Lexi, mastering a tuck.

New Years Eve Project

Eric and I have had a joke going since the very first new year's eve we spent in Lexington. We remodeled our house before we moved in. Eric went after work every day and painted walls, windows, and trim. We didn't have everything quite like we wanted it when we moved in at the end of October. However, Eric was burned out. I didn't say anything because he had really been working hard to get done what he was able to do. Fast forward to new year's eve. We're staying at home(as ususal). I get a wild hair that it's time to scrape the paint off the windows and finish painting the trim a second coat. This wild hair hit me around 11:30p.m. I got Eric up and by the end of the weekend, we had finished.

Every new year's eve since then, he asks me what kind of project I want him to do. It has become a major conversation piece. This year was no exception. Only he didn't ask what I wanted done, he chose what to do. My mom gave us a motion detector light to hang in the garage that will tell us when to stop. Eric went out and put it up all by himself. And so...the saga continues.

Happy New Year, Eric. You're the best!

A New You

Rebecca received make-up for Christmas. I wanted to start her out correctly, so I purchased the Mary Kay skin care for her with the stipulation that she learn how to use it correctly. A teacher from school(MK consultant) came over and did a glamour session with us. Rebecca invited one of her friends over to join the fun. I was glad that Shannon talked to them about how important it is to take care of their skin!! Here are a couple of pictures of the girls in action:

Ringing in the New Year

Rebecca went to spend the night with one of her friends last night. I got a phone call around 9:00 asking if it was okay if the friend's aunt could take Rebecca with them to toilet paper another friend's house. I said it was fine, but don't call me to get you out of jail. The aunt assured me the people would think it was funny. (She knew them well.) They had to use streamers at the first house. Then they went to get some toilet paper for the second house. I think Rebecca had a good time. We'll just have to talk to her about what can happen when you do it to people you don't know.
